He’s Back!
November 9, 2011 | 3 Comments
The grid failed due to wet snow and high winds last night about 12:55am. So no post was made. But what was written is now on the server to load tonight.
We’re pretty busy here without the grid feeding 7500 volts to the transformer. An 8 hp 4000 watt gasoline generator is powering this writing and allowing the refrigerators and furnace to catch up. The generator needed a trip to the parts supplier, more gasoline and a carburetor cleaning by flashlight. Done. We’re marginally powered.
Your humble writer wonders where global warming went. It would have been handy today and tonight.
Its events like this that put the meaning into the site. It’s amazing how dark it is when there is no electricity for miles around.

Well at least people will say you are trendy – living off the grid. I guess this is where that personal Thorium Reactor would have been nice to have.
Recent power outages should get more people thinking about how to do without grid power, at least temporarily.
Hopefully the proper mentality will spread to more businesses, institutions, and industries, so that a large-scale grid outage may eventually become more of a mild nuisance, rather than a severe disruption of normal activity.
Are you in New England? In my NH town, 86% were without power due to downed trees and power lines.
