Hydrocarbon  secretion  by  E.  coli MG16555  expressing  a  cyanobacterial  alkane  biosynthesis pathway.  86%  of  the hydrocarbons  produced  are  extracellular  (A)  leading  to  a  visual  turbidity  of  the supernatant (B).
