In its pilot plant for CO2 capture scientists at the TU Darmstadt have explored the carbonate looping process successfully. When carbonate looping method of naturally occurring limestone is used to bind the CO2 is initially in a first reactor from the exhaust stream of the power plant. In a second reactor, the pure carbon dioxide is released again and may be further processed or stored.
